Tampere University and the Finnish Meteorological Institute participate in EU funded PAREMPI-project together with VTT, Dekati, IEM from Czech Republic and BOSMAL from Poland. In the project the researchers will measure real-world aerosol emissions from heavy-duty diesel vehicles in winter conditions around Finland. The aim is to measure the exhaust emissions of diesel trucks but also to study the health effects of the exhaust emissions on cellular level. To make these measurements possible, a myriad of instruments was fitted in a sea container which will travel around Finland on a truck. Special attention is paid to the aging of the engine exhaust emission and formation of secondary particles. The level of detail and new information on the effect of wintery conditions is expected to help finding ways to improve air quality and reduce the effect of pollution in Europe.
